I downloaded this. The 'builder' part looks pretty solid, but the 'sheet view' had some problems with alignment of the 'dots' on the page I noticed. It may be my operating system (Mac).

That's an operating system / software issue. I suspect anything that's not the actual Microsoft Excel 2010 product will have trouble with the graphics lining up.
The "print" tab is what I'll be using myself, as I like in-depth character sheets. "Sheet" was included for those liking the original. Hmm, I just got an idea on how I might be able to replicate it better....
OpenOffice or Google Spreadsheets should open it just fine, they just won't have the graphics lining up. The work-around I came up with yesterday is panning out well but I'm working through a few other comments from testers before I release again.
So, next version should be a lot more accessible!
Ok, newest version uses standard excel shading to mimic the official sheet instead of using a graphical underlay. It should work on all platforms now. There's still a graphic for the death spiral, but it doesn't interact with anything so you can just move it around / scale it if you need to.
I have a pdf form to contribute, how do you attach to a post?
Thank you, @AllenHueffmeier, you can attach them like "images" if you select "Text Format: Forum HTML" below any thread reply. There is no special file optoin. Or if you have them PDF hosted somewhere, then post a link like a URL instead.
I also just sent you a Private Message with the email address. Private messages can be seen at the very bottom of the screen if you scroll down that low.

About a week ago I sent a few mispellings here and there that I picked up, but the big issue I found is when I picked Large advantage, it gave me the description of Foreign Born...wondering if you ever got around fixing that. Also when I print out the "official character sheet style", it doesn't print the Swordsman style & bonus maneuver, but it will when you print out the 4-5 pg character sheet style.
I never got your list of mispellings. Can you please send it to me directly? I'm looking into the other things you mentioned now. Thanks for pointing them out.
Notably, most words that start with F will have a typo somewhere in them. It's something to do with how the text was copied from the pdf.
@JamesAnderson, I think @MarkLundequist sent the message to me so I just messaged you with the details.

Interesting work. Have you a plan to tackle the extra "health" when someone takes the Hard to Kill advantage?
The detailed sheet already has this incorporated - if you select Hard to Kill, the extra line will show up. Adding it to the "official" style sheet would be difficult as it would need to replace the death spiral graphic and I'm not sure if I can tie that to a formula.
Thanks for this awesome tool!
One bug that I found: When selecting the Background Knight Errant, the Advantage Direction Sense appears below the listing, but does not populate in the Advantages section, nor on the Character Sheet.
Thanks again!
Mike
Thanks for pointing it out. Turns out it's a general problem of having 3 advantages on the first background. I've now fixed it for the next update.
If you want to continue with the sheet you're working on you can type Direction Sense into cell B64 and it should carry through.
The sheet is fantastically useful.
I found out a small bug though. The calculation of the free advantages twice awarded has issues with blank cells. Try first background Aristocrat, Second Duelist, and you get a N/A on A35. For the moment I did a lazy fix on H30 =IFNA(AC34,0)+IFNA(AC35,0)+IFNA(AC36,0)
Thanks for the catch. Fix is in cell AB35. Add =IF(E31="",0, to the start of the formula and close the parentheses on the end. This will also be included in the next update, which I'll try to send in tomorrow.
Very handy. Thanks indeed to James Anderson for creating this.

One bug I found, is that it's treating Cast Iron Stomach as being the Camaraderie advantage, both in terms of point cost (3pts instead of 1pt) and the description of what Cast Iron Stomach does.
Other than that, this has been pretty handy, so thanks again to the creator for putting this together.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to this. Was a simple alphabetizing issue. Got it fixed for the next version.
I just sent in the update for Heroes & Villains and for Pirate Nations.
Leads me to a formating question for people. How do you want me to flag things from non-core books? Internally, they're highlighted in different colors, but so far I don't have anything user-facing to designate it. The easiest is for me to keep it that way - new things just appear in the dropdowns as if they'd always been there. Is that sufficient, or is there demand for knowing which book an ability comes from? If so, how would you like that to look?
Thank you guys for the great Generator! I noticed a couple of things while using it recently:
It'd be interesting if you had some way of tracking/archiving past Stories as the PC advances.
As for the flagging, I'd advise against it. You either keep everything as simple as possible or go whole-hog and add source books and pages numbers for everything, which will turn into quite a bookkeeping exercise (especially since some mechanics pop up in different sourcebooks). On the other hand, if you want to go the librarian route, now's the time to set the structure for it.
One bug I just noticed is that if you select Highlands as your Nation, the Seanchaidh background doen't appear on the list of selectable options.
Same is true for Avalon with the Puritan background and Inismore with the Saoi background.

And the latest updated Character Generator by James Anderson is version 1.12, which fixes most bugs found so far and adds new sourcebooks (no Crescent Empire yet).

Any plans on updating this for the New World book or Lands of Gold and Fire?
