Proposing an official Looking For Group thread.

We can always use Roll20 to look for groups to play online, however we may want to have a way for people to look for groups to play in person throughout the world.

I propose we have an official looking for group thread, much like the reddit subreddit r/lfg, except specific to 7th Sea since not all of us use Reddit.

List if you are looking for people to join in a game online or offline, if you are starting a 1st edition or 2nd edition campaign, the campaign stipulations, or if you are just looking for fellow 7th Sea players in your area.

The same time you might want to list planned schedule for games or if the game will be play-by-post on a forum (and I'm sure there will be a sub-forum here for play-by-post at some point), or if you plan to determine this later once there are enough players on board.

Seth Woolwine, the idea is interesting and a suggestion for a voting system to signify interest in a game is doable. laugh

We can even have special game play threads based off the "Blog template" with comments restricted to players only.

We could make the sessions viewable by all or make them private. We can also have this Game Schedule thread list links to Roll20.net for the online sessions.

And now for the big questions: how do we protect personal privacy if a group prefers to play in person and meets in someone's house? devil

I can post a warning with suggestions to meet in public venues for the games instead, since nobody's address is saved here. With strangers the importance of clubs becomes obvious.

I would think that people mention at the very least what city they reside in and when they agree on a game can work out privately how to contact one another.

It is difficult to find a public venue to host a TTRPG. My city has one such place with these kind of meetings in mind(it's a geek themed bar), but those are not exactly common.

I know our local Dennys doesn't care if we have our TTRPG there.  Usually we end up ordering some dinner at some point, but some of us only order a drink, and we can game there all night, being it is 24 hours.  Their are also Game stores aplenty around me.  Waffle House is a tad harder, given the fact that they usually are smaller and have a smaller table, but not undoable (played CCG's there a few time with some friends.).  Then, their are always Libraries that I have gamed at.

Here is a brief overview of the plan so far.

(a) A calendar content type to list out events and generic locations (please avoid specifics over privacy concerns).

(b) A Signup system for interested parties to signup and receive notifications when the events are about to start.

(c) Recommended links for online events (personal face-to-face meetups are outside the scope of this fansite).

(d) Maybe a simple journaling system for those who want to play-by-post at 7thSea2e.com (we will enable a chat client too).

Yep. All of those things.

I do allot of Post by post RP's.... if you got a good dedicated group, or a time to meet up, they can work really well, but on the site I usually do it on, games come and go, players flake, GM's vanish... it is rather annoying sometimes.

But the rest sounds really solid.  Chat clients are always good too :)

Let's keep inind that personal safety is an issue these days. Regardless of where you plan to play, you need to plan for your initial meeting to be in a public location. And regardless of your planned play time, this meetup should take place at a reasonable hour. Talk to each other and get a feel for the people you meet before you agree to join them at another location. As for using restaurants, ask before showing up. Some don't want a group taking up space some may have to deal with state or local laws about games of chance (wording may include and game using dice) and their beer license (and some states still enforce that). AND YOU BETTER TIP HUGE

Another thought, since profiles aren't up yet: Add a field/checkbox/something to the profile form for "looking for group" or "willing to GM" or some such.

There's also the simple option of a forum section where people can post things like "Hey, I'm in the greater metro {city} area, anyone else around here looking to get a group together?" If enough people respond, they can then contact each other back channel to work out details. No extra work needed on the admin's part :-).

Play by post sounds really good! The chat client sounds great too.

We may have to freeze new features as the site will require an upgrade if we keep adding new features. ;-)

Anyway, we have a preview of "Meetups" in the lefthand sidebar.

Meetups can also be accessed via the summary page here: http://www.7thsea2e.com/port/meetup

"Meetups" are only available to those of you who applied for the "GM" role.

On the top black navbar you will see the "add content" and the "Meetup for Games" option there. Enjoy!

All players can register by voting and posting comments. I will find a way to reveal the votes to the GMs.

The Meetups have a calendar, with space for short descriptions (venue too) and subscriptions that should send reminders to players who subscribe. Also the karma voting results will be viewable by GMs. All this needs testing.

Any movement on the Play-By-Post front?

We have the "Meetups" on the left navbar that offers a date for Meetups and comments for players to run a rudimentary Play-by-Post. I have a Chat Client ready, but the current server may not be able to cope. I suggested donations to support an upgrade, but there seems to be a lack of interest in donations. Ha ha ha! Anyway, when I get paid this month, I may invest my money in the upgrade regardless (so in about a week, we will get new servers). I just wish we got some recognition of all these efforts and the contributions of fans here by John Wick and crew.

I notice there is not a way to add new Meet Ups to the list.....yet..... Until then will mention to fellow 7th Sea players that I live in Milwaukee so if there are others interested in joining a game come release of the core rule book I will be more than happy to run an adventure.

Meetups need "GM-Level" access. I check and you have GM-Level access. Could you kindly confirm if you see "Add content" in the top black navbar? If yes, then click "Add content" and from there select "Meetup". Hopefully, it works for you. Sorry, for not improving the section. The servers crashed so I just left the rudimentary working version for now.

I'll forgo appreciation directly from John, he's got a ton to write. Rob and some of the others are popping in and contributing clarifications which is pretty cool of them. Beyond that, I appreciate your efforts in running this thing since I have zero knowledge in how to go about operating anything that involves computational technology.

So, for those who don't know: http://www.gamersplane.com is a play by post site that has character sheet support for 7th Sea 2nd edition. A lot of us have already started a few games there and another game has just started recruiting. You can find it on the Games Tavern forum there.

Calendars for Game Meetups have been activated, finally. cool

On the right hand navbar you will see "GenCon" this August, but in future it will be "Meetups".

Enjoy! And hope to see you all representting at Gen Con 2016.
