Hi guys!
The very first time I've been reading through "making a hero" chapter, I've been amazed how many ideas for a hero I had. I wasn't a fan of swashbucklers and this genre was quite new for me, but after reading that chapter, my head was full of all that cool ideas. I'd love to see a place, where people could share theirs.
I'm a web developer. I'm thinking about creating a website, where you could:
- Create your character step by step (similar to character creation excel sheets)
- Download filled character sheet PDF
- Create account and manage your character sheets
- Share your hero with other members
- Vote for heros using system similar to Stack Exchange / Reddit
Would you be interested in using that website? Do you have any suggestions how to improve that idea? I'm asking because I'd like to know if it's worth spending 80+ hours of work to create that, pay for the hosting, layout, etc.
Please share your opinions.
This sounds like a great idea. Several folks have contributed different techniques, including the useful Character Generator Spreadsheets by James Anderson.

Yeah, I've seen that and James did a wonderful work. However, excel is a limited way to create your character. Additionally, not everyone is using MS Office.
DISCLAIMER: I've worked for JWP, and will again in the future, but I am not a representative of the company.
Also I Am Not a Lawyer.
HOWEVER, you might want to be careful here as putting all the character creation mechanics online for free might be frowned on as it pushes strongly up against IP law. IF you want to do it I'd contact JWP, probably Hannah Shaffer and she can talk to the lawyers and John and Mark and get a response to you regarding all that. I know some of the JWP staff read here too so they might already have contacted you, again out of the loop. It's a lot of work, you don't want to do it all and be slapped with a necessary C&D letter. John is pretty friendly to fan created stuff so they MIGHT try to work something out with you via the Explorer's Society thing, so this isn't me saying, "Give Up!" far from it. Just a friendly heads up.

I would DEFINITELY use that.
Would anyone make use of a 7th Sea 2E dataset for Herolab? Just curious...
If it's allowable (or if it gets rolled into the 7th Sea 2E website), I'm all for it. I'm also a Web Developer, we could collaborate if need be.
